Glenora Winery, Seneca Lake

timber legitimates stainless steel tanker creeps away

The Glenora winery received a succession of visits from the group, with Dian Hosking and Steve Little taking the photographs. It lies on the western shore of Seneca Lake, north of the town of Watkins Glen.

This winery represents the most organised and commercialised end of the Finger Lakes experience, and requires the prominent display of timber casks about the site to distract from the bulk delivery of off-site ingredients via road tanker.

The Glenora site includes a hotel/motel and restaurant complex overlooking Seneca Lake in addition to the winery building

The site represents an extension of the winery and is in fact an integrated lakeside resort. Associated events, including jazz festivals and spoof "whale watching" trips focus on the lake.

Credentials in the form of wine festival medals are on display. Specialisations include jazz festival themed packaging and personalised labelling for special events.

Wine festivals at Glenora include "process" festivals such as the "dosage" festival. Tourists are made familiar with the wine-making processes through the viewing of an eleven minute video which uses and explains the process terms.
